I was sent the SolaDyne Solar Flashlight to review. Is there anyone that can’t use a flashlight? I know in our house we have a couple of flashlights. But do they work? Well they would if we had batteries in them and of course remembering to buy batteries at a store is not a priority for me and so I will forget until the time comes when I need the flashlight!

The SolaDyne Solar Flashlight requires no batteries so I was super happy about that. But did it work? There are two ways this flashlight can work. 1) Sit it out in the sunlight 2) Use the hand crank. These are perfect options for me!!!

How does it work:

The SolaDyne Solar Flashlight operates with 3 super-bright LEDs that never need replacing. The flashlight has two modes of operation – high (3 LEDs) and low (1 LED).

Sunlight – With a full day of sunlight, the solar panel will charge the lithium ion internal rechargeable battery to operate 1 LED for approximately 15 hours and 3 LEDs for approximately 5 hours.

Hand Crank – Winding the hand crank for about a minute will operate 1 LED for approximately 1 hour and 3 LEDs for approximately 30 minutes.

It also includes a Nokia phone adaptor cable that, with a few cranks, will give you a few minutes of emergency cell phone battery life. How awesome is that? And if it rains, a few hand cranks generate enough power for a full hour of emergency lighting. This durable flashlight makes a great green gift for a purse, camping, fishing, travel, home, garage, office, and during power emergencies.

Plus:
“Disposable household batteries are estimated to account for more than 50% of the cadmium in the MSW and 88% of mercury in municipal solid waste (MSW) stream – our trash, despite the fact that cadmium was banned in electronics in 2004 in the European Union. Source: United States Environmental Protection Agency. The WWF recently endorsed a UNIROSS study in the UK that showed that rechargeable batteries have up to 32 times less impact on non-renewable natural resources as do disposable batteries. “In the UK, 660 million batteries are bought each year. 95 percent of these are disposable – cumulatively that’s an enormous amount of batteries heading straight to landfill, releasing damaging chemicals into the environment. It’s wasteful and unnecessary,” says Colin Butfield, Head of Campaigns at WWF-UK.”

Wow. That makes me not want to buy batteries! I never even knew something like a solar powered flashlight existed and I am so happy I had the opportunity to review the SolaDyne Solar Flashlight.
