I recently had the opportunity to read “You’re it – Successful Single Mothering after Divorce” written by Jeanne L. Ward.
About the book:
You’ve just become a single mother. There are tons of thoughts running through your head including self-pity, reluctance, and maybe even unresolved feelings about your ex-husband. Allow yourself a few days of pity and large amounts of chocolate and then pick up this book and learn to again embrace the wonderful possibilities life has to offer. You’re It! Successful Single Mothering after Divorce will teach you to take a hard look at yourself, create a plan and move forward to be the best woman and mother you can be. Accomplishing these things is a process and does not occur overnight; however, with time you will learn to approach your life with a deep commitment to yourself, your children and your life as a family. This is a comprehensive guide for all divorced mothers. In fact, it’s a MUST READ for every divorced mother. I only wish this enlightening book had been published when I was a divorced mother many years ago. This educational and entertaining book answers every question a newly divorced mother might have about “next steps and reality.” The author is an authority on this subject and writes this how-to book from personal experience and knowledge. — Delores Kesler, Chairman of the Board PSS World Medical Jeanne L. Ward has served as a teacher, counselor and adjunct professor at a local university. She has also served as a government official, economic development consultant and child advocate. Jeanne and her husband, Charlie, reside in Jacksonville, Florida.”
My opinion:
Honestly, this is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I am not divorced or separated, but unfortunately I know a lot of women that are and you can bet that I will be handing this book around. Not a “preachy” book by any means, but more of a “I have been there and done that – here is what has helped me”. Plus, the way the book is written, you kind of get the feeling that you know Ms. Ward. That she is speaking to you.
However, I think the best thing about this book is that, in my opinion, most of the advice she offers can be used by any mother, divorced or not. For example, Chapter 10, Tick Tock, It’s 6 O’clock – Childcare for all Ages, she encourages her readers to know all they can about their childs life – become a detective of sorts, as well as advising her readers to accept nothing less that a quality, licensed and warm daycare, afterschool environment for children.
This book definitely gets a thumbs up from me.
You can find the book online through the publisher or Amazon.

it's good to know there is good advice for any mom, sounds like a good read regardless
Will definitely keep an eye out for this book as I have single mommy friends.
Thanks for sharing this one – I'm glad it wasn't preachy because we all can use help. I hope it helps a lot of people because there are a ton of parents divorced or not who want to be the best for their kids. Their kids deserve it, too.
